health association Helmi ry. HELMI is a clients organization
founded in Helsinki in 1983 by a group of users of mental health
services. The word HELMI also means "a pearl" in Finnish. Later
HELMI became larger and regional and nation-wide association ·
Target group: people with various mental health problems or disorders.
Open to all, regardless of diagnosis · Aims: to involve people
with experience of mental problems as experts of their own lives
to encourage and involve people in recovery in decision making,
mutual support, societal attitude change, to fight social injustices
- oppression, unethical competition, exploitation of human needs
· Organisation form: national, 1040 members [stand: April
2010] · Status of workers: 8 paid staff, 70 volunteers ·
Funding: primarily Slot Machine Association of Finland (www.ray.fi)
